The Evolution of Shopping
The internet has changed the way we think of a department store. It used to be, one would drive or walk to a store locally and there would be one store filled in each department with various items of the same catagory. Hence, the name department. It was a time saver from the old style of going "downtown" in the early 20th century and before, and making one stop at the feed store, another at the hat shop, another at the harness and tack shop, and yet another to the sheet music store.
Then came the shopping centers... then the malls. Each brought something of an easier access to all the things you want. In the last 10 years, we have had the internet to study, research, play games and stay in touch with friends and family or to be entertained. The evolution continued with major stores going online. Then the smaller ones... a world of stores to shop and buy right from your home or office with a simple click of the mouse.
Now once again the online shopping has evolved to the Online Shopping Mall, where everything you can think of to buy is under "one roof". The size and scope of all these stores in just one online mall, such as Amazon.com, Buy.com, SavingCircus.com and others would be the equal to a medium size city, with nothing but stores and shops from each boundary line to the next. The size is staggering and the completeness of what is available is endless. No parking or gasoline expenses. Just point, click and in a few days it is delivered right to you.
Who knows whats next... a holographic virtual mall where you actually chat with the sales clerk? Some stores even have a clerk online to chat with you now... some with a live feed video. Looks like the future is now. Next time you go shopping... try an online mall.
